All MASH-certified sober homes follow the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) standards and have been independently inspected. A sense of hope and empowerment is critical to staying in recovery. Living with others that are successful, demonstrates to them that it is possible and helps them reach that point. Their medical and clinical directors guide individuals through an assessment to determine which drug and alcohol treatment fits best. ASAM’s criteria are required in over 30 states.

In accordance with this requirement, MASH serves as the primary agency for accountability of all certified homes in Massachusetts. Our organization also provides supervision and training for sober homes, and maintains a database of more than 180 MASH-certified sober homes. Most of our community has been through an inpatient rehab program or halfway house and have learned about the disease of addiction and the tools needed in order to stay sober. All community members are subject to random drug screens and daily breathalyzing. This is a critical part of our routine to ensure accountability.
